Summer 2013 saw Ceramicist and Harding House Gallery member Soo Durham create a
'Syrian Peace Tree' for UNICEF's Syrian Children Crisis, as part of 'The Sculpture In The Sanctuary' Exhibition, held at Reg Taylor's Garden Centre, Southwell, Nottinghamshire.
Soo's 'Syrian Peace Tree' was created to raise money and awareness for the plight of the Syrian
children caught in the crossfire of war.
We are very proud of Soo for raising an amazing total of £5492.00
All proceeds were donated to UNICEF's Syrian Children Crisis.
"In April of this year, after being invited to exhibit my flower sculptures at Reg Taylor’s Biennial 'Sculpture In The Sanctuary Exhibition', I decided to also try and raise awareness to the plight of the Syrian people. My idea was to modify my porcelain doves to hang in a tree and also to
be underplanted on metal rods. All proceeds to be donated to the Syrian crisis, my thoughts being that people would be able to donate to a worthy cause and at the same time take home a peace dove for their garden. This was made possible by Paul Taylor and his fellow staff allowing me to stage the event as part of the exhibition and finding me the perfect oak tree in their sanctuary, and best of all, with great generosity, waived their commission fee on the sales of the doves".
The total amount raised was £5492.00.
"A huge thank-you from me to everyone who made a donation".
